Divorce Cost Estimate

To use this portion of the app, simply scroll through all of the categories of costs of divorce listed to gain an understanding of the costs of divorce.

Many of these costs are “soft” costs, i.e. more of an impact on personal well-being.  These costs are useful in planning for the impact of divorce on you and those around you.

Other costs are those which can be quantified in hard dollars.  For example, you may be need to hire a forensic accountant to answer financial questions you have had concerning your spouse’s use of money.  To enter this item, simply select it and input either a total cost or the number of hours the forensic accountant estimates it will take to do the work, then return to the overall cost estimate.  Then, enter the next cost item and the system will accumulate all costs

At any point in your tracking activities, you can email your soon to be ex, your attorney or yourself a listing of all of your costs.  This could be useful in asking for reimbursement for certain items from your spouse or the court.

Divorce Preparation

Obtaining and providing documents can be one of the most time-consuming and bothersome aspects of a divorce.  It is critical to comply with court orders to exchange information timely.  If documents are not submitted timely, they may not be able to be used as evidence.  If you don’t provide documents timely, you could be sanctioned by the Court.

To use this component of the app, scroll through the categories of information to determine which ones apply to your case and for what purpose.  Select each item as appropriate and either check it off as obtained and/or make notes about it-if you’ve asked for it from another source, when it was asked for, if it will have to be obtained by subpoena, etc.

You can periodically review your list of checked items to see what is missing and email yourself or your attorney a report of items that have been gathered and items that are not included.
